McGUINTY LIBERALS SURE LOVE THEIR TAX INCREASES

The McGuinty Liberals are in full damage control mode when it comes to their record setting $3 billion HST tax grab.

Liberal MPPs are willingly spreading misleading information about their plan to increase sales taxes on gas, home heating fuel, hydro, hair-cuts, retirement savings and dozens of other goods and services that Ontario families use every day.

The Liberals claim that opposing the HST also means you oppose the hypothetical tax cuts they promise will accompany their greedy $3 billion sales tax grab. Credibility Watch has performed a quick survey of the Liberal record and determined that Dalton McGuinty has never turned down an opportunity to increase the very taxes he is now promising to cut.

CORPORATE TAXES: The McGuinty Liberals have raised corporate taxes by 75% since coming to office.

(Even if they were to follow through on their so-called ‘tax package’, corporate taxes would still be 25% higher than when they came to office)

INCOME TAXES: The McGuinty Liberals passed the largest income tax increase in Ontario’s history (the so-called ‘health tax’) after cancelling personal income tax cuts from the 2003 PC Budget. The health tax alone has brought in approximately $15 billion to date (Budget 2009). The health tax takes more money from Ontarians’ wallets than the land transfer tax, tobacco tax, and fuel tax combined.

(Even if they were to follow through on their so-called ‘tax package’, the middle tax bracket rate would still be 3.4% higher than when the Liberals came to office)

SMALL BUSINESS TAXES: The McGuinty Liberals increased small business taxes by 37.5% since coming to office.

(Even if they were to follow through on their so-called ‘tax package’, small businesses will still be paying 12.5% more in increased taxes from when the Liberals came to office)

JOB CREATION: Between the budget and the so-called ‘tax package’ the Liberals have promised more than a million (1,050,000) new jobs this year. They actually presided over the net loss of 32,000 jobs. Credibility Watch will be paying close attention to how they intend to make up their 1,082,000 job shortfall.

Credibility Watch Conclusion:

When it comes to Dalton McGuinty and taxes you can either believe his promises or you can believe his record. The record is clear — Dalton McGuinty is no friend to Ontario taxpayers.
