PC CAUCUS CHALLENGES McGUINTY FOR BREAKING HIS PROMISES
- Dalton McGuinty once solemnly swore he would not increase the tax burden on Ontario families. He broke that promise, first with the so-called ‘health tax’ and now with the HST.
- Dalton McGuinty once claimed to support public hearings on important issues. He has abandoned that commitment in order to ram his record-breaking HST tax through.
- Conclusion: Dalton McGuinty cannot be trusted. He broke his word in order to ram through higher taxes in the first place and is willing to say or do anything in order to get his way.
NEWS
Once upon a time Dalton McGuinty pledged he would not raise taxes. He has broken that promise again and again and again. Whether it was his record-smashing ‘health tax’ income tax increase, his massive business tax increases or his plans to impose the largest sales tax increase in Ontario history, Dalton McGuinty’s actions in power have betrayed his true intentions.
Once upon a time Dalton McGuinty claimed he supported public hearings and a stronger democracy in Ontario. Yet today McGuinty is denying Ontario taxpayers a say in his HST tax grab by refusing public hearings on his HST Bill. The McGuinty Liberals are also planning to use a legislative loophole limit debate and shut down public scrutiny and review of their HST Bill.
Dalton McGuinty is today showing complete disregard for the voters and taxpayers who originally granted him the privilege of serving as Premier. This is not the same Dalton McGuinty people thought they were voting for in 2003.
QUOTES
“Dalton McGuinty is quick to make promises and even quicker to break them. Families throughout Ontario are today paying thousands of dollars more in taxes because Dalton McGuinty cannot be trusted to keep his word.”
- Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak
“What happened to Dalton McGuinty after six years in office? Where once Dalton McGuinty claimed to stand for transparency and accountability, he now engages in obstruction, secrecy and cover-ups. Where once Dalton McGuinty claimed to stand for fiscal responsibility, he has instead become a Premier hardwired to tax and spend.”
- Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak
