Dalton McGuinty’s HST Tax Grab Will Force Sudbury Families to Pay More For Gas

News:

Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak dropped by a Pioneer gas station in Sudbury today to highlight how Dalton McGuinty’s HST tax grab on gasoline will hit family budgets throughout Northern Ontario.

When the HST takes effect on July 1st, Sudbury families will pay 8 per cent more for gasoline every time they go to the pumps. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation estimates that a family with two mid-size cars with average fuel efficiency will pay an average of $246 in HST every year on gasoline alone. Northern Ontario families who are forced to drive greater distances just to get groceries, go to the doctor or drop their kids off at school will be among the hardest hit of all.

Quotes:

“Dalton McGuinty’s previous tax and fee increases have hurt Northern Ontario’s economy and cost thousands of well-paying northern jobs. Now his $3 billion HST tax grab is making life more expensive still. Northern Ontario families can’t afford to lose any more local jobs.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

“Northern Ontario families are already facing record job losses and a higher cost of living. Cars and trucks are not luxuries, they are necessities, for many Northern Ontario families. Only a Premier as out-of-touch as Dalton McGuinty would increase gas taxes during these already difficult times.”

– Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak
